Hello again!

Hello everybody.

It is less than a week until the NPS summer fete (2.00 pm - 4.30 pm), where Eco club will have a stall selling plants, crazy grassheads, a Jumble-Bumble sale and even a chance to buy some of the land on minibeast city!
Please come to the stall because this will help us raise more money for Minibeast City. Thank-you!

Did you know that it is National Insect Week this week? It is trying to teach people more about the insects around us. You can find out more here: http://nationalinsectweek.co.uk/

ECO GADGET REVIEW!

By Theo Binns

Savasocket
The savasocket is an item which, by the click of a button, forces your TV/Xbox/DVD Player off standby! They claim that it can save you £40 a year. However, the savasocket doesn't come with a remote, so you have to already have a remote and connect it up to the little sensor. This is quite tricky, even with the manual. But the two plugs for things that you want on standby, such as a TV recorder is very useful.

Interesting discussions at Eco Club

Hello! We are back. This week in eco club, most of us are making amazing things to sell at the summer fair to raise money for Minibeast City.

We were also having an interesting discussion about how to power things in the future. This video is what started the discussion:

The discussion was about sunflower-oil powered cars, and how good they could be. However, Miss Malone told us that if we took down the whole school and planted sunflowers, we would barely have enough oil to get Mr Croker, our headteacher, half way home. So then we thought how we could have massive fields of sunflowers, but then we thought, 'What about all the power stations in the way?'. We wouldn't be allowed to replaced all the power stations with fields of sunflowers, even if they were used for oil.  So what do we get rid of instead?  Maura realised that that's what they chop down rainforests for!

This is one of the very few sunflower oil powered cars in the world, called the Lotus Exige 265E. This one, however, goes from 0-60 mph in only 3.8 seconds!

Then we thought about the benefits of solar panels.

Imagine if all towns were like this...
